Claddings

Cladding is a high-performance surface engineering process where a layer of specialized alloy is metallurgically bonded to a base metal. This technique allows BZZ to provide components with the superior properties of expensive materials—such as extreme hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion protection—while maintaining the structural integrity and cost-effectiveness of the base material. Whether for pre-protective coating of new parts or the precision repair of worn components, our cladding solutions significantly extend equipment service life in the most demanding industrial environments.

1. PTA Plasma Powder Surfacing

The Technical Characteristics of PTA Surfacing

The defining characteristic of hard-facing alloy surfacing is the use of PTA (Plasma Transferred Arc) technology. PTA welding is a highly efficient surfacing method that utilizes a plasma gas stream, generated within a compressed arc zone, as its primary heat source, with alloy powders serving as the filler material.

Application Cases: BZZ provides customers with comprehensive PTA plasma powder surfacing products and solutions for various high-temperature and medium-pressure valve sealing surfaces (including conventional butterfly valves, ball valves, gate valves, globe valves, check valves, safety valves, etc.).

Compared to conventional heat sources, the plasma arc offers distinct advantages: ultra-high temperatures, concentrated energy density, and exceptional arc stability. These features result in a minimized Heat Affected Zone (HAZ), rapid welding speeds, and high production efficiency. Furthermore, the process excels at producing thin surfacing layers with exceptionally low dilution rates. PTA powder welding is highly conducive to mechanization and automation, ensuring consistent quality. The resulting cladding exhibits a fine-grained microstructure, a glossy, smooth appearance, and excellent metallurgical bonding with the substrate. Consequently, the finished surface requires minimal to no post-weld machining. Currently, the PTA powder system stands as the industry’s most widely adopted plasma surfacing solution.

2. TIG & CMT Corrosion-Resistant Cladding

The Precision Process for Anti-Corrosive Surfacing

The surfacing of corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA) at BZZ is characterized by the integration of TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and advanced CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) technologies.

CMT technology, in particular, represents a significant advancement in overlay welding. By utilizing an innovative “cold” wire deposition mechanism, CMT ensures a substantially lower heat input compared to conventional pulsed arc welding. This minimizes thermal distortion and results in an exceptionally low dilution rate, ensuring that the cladding layer retains its full anti-corrosive chemical properties from the very first layer. This precision makes it the ideal solution for protecting complex valve interiors and heavy-duty components.
